App Guidelines
How do we make sure that NextBlock is safe for all neighbours?
User verification
All users on NextBlock are verified - meaning there are at least 2 verification doors every user has to go through (SMS-OTP, Manual Photo Verification / Invite Code Verification) in order to be qualified as a verified user on our app.
Community policing
Like most community-based social networks, NextBlock has 2 reporting functions - Reporting Post / Reporting Users where malicious users of the app can be reported by various users of the community either because of bad behaviour or an infringement of our community rules.
Whenever a user is deemed to be harmful to the community, the user will lose access to NextBlock in order to protect the rest of the community if it is deemed a serious case or that this user has infringed upon his rights multiple times.
NextBlock policing
We, members of Team NextBlock are users of the app as well. We do have a dedicated team performing social-listening on the app itself - looking out for malicious postings and at the same time, doubling up to learn more about user habits and behaviours in order to improve our app in due time through enhancements. We are committed to making the platform a safe space for all.
Tips for Respectful conversations
Every neighbour should feel welcome, safe, and respected when using NextBlock
Disagreements aren’t easy, but we can learn a lot from them. We encourage neighbours to approach multi-perspective discussions with compassion and empathy.
Follow these tips for disagreeing respectfully:
Be mindful of how you participate. Ask yourself before you engage if your words will effect change, understanding, and empathy in your community.
Respectfully challenge the idea, not the person. Focus on the facts or ideas you want to communicate, without attacking the person.
Don’t make assumptions. When you’re unsure about something someone has said, ask for clarification and be willing to listen to the response.
Acknowledge common ground. Even if you don’t wholeheartedly agree with someone, if you can appreciate something they’ve said or done, let them know.
Encourage understanding. If you are part of a discussion on NextBlock that has become harmful or offensive, do your part to encourage empathy and understanding.
Cite Sources. If you are sharing data, please include your source for clarity and to help support the discussion with facts.
Our Community Guidelines are intended to ensure that every neighbour feels welcome, safe, and respected when using NextBlock . If you see posts or comments that violate these guidelines, please report it so that we may remove it.
Keep in mind that disagreeing with a post is not a reason to report it. This slows down our ability to remove content that is truly abusive and to create a platform that can help build stronger communities.
Encourage usage of real names
NextBlock is built on trust — we want everyone to know they’re communicating with their real neighbour, and therefore encourage you to use your true identity.
Users should not be using the name of your business or organization as your account name. Business and service information should be added to the About Me section of your personal profile.
One of NextBlock's goals is to encourage more connections between neighbours in real life. That's why adding your profile photo and completing your profile are so important.
Sharing a recent photo and information about yourself on your profile helps strengthen these connections and builds a sense of community. This also helps your neighbours connect you to your presence on NextBlock when they encounter you on the street, in a park, or at the coffeeshop.
What type of posts are not allowed
These types of content are prohibited, and violation may result in immediate and permanent removal from the platform without warning:
Political and religious content and proselytizing.
Content that incites or encourages social discord.
Sexually inappropriate content.
Spams (repetitive) or scams.
Money laundering or illegal money lending.
