Data Privacy

Why need to verify users?

A platform like Facebook removes an average of 1.3 Billion fake user accounts every quarter and this is a phenomenon we  do not wish to encounter here at NextBlock. Fake user accounts will usually run a higher risk of having falsified and unverified information being shared over the platform and this contradicts what we believe here at NextBlock.

Before new users can utilize the full functionality of the NextBlock app, they must match their address with their corresponding NextBlock account with a special invite code.  An unverified user will not be able to engage in community activities such as posting, commenting, liking, or sharing of any posts within the community.

This is how serious we are about creating a safe environment for all our users. The process was designed in this manner in order to protect the privacy and maintain the integrity of the platform.

Alternatively, you can verify your address by uploading a copy or photo of one of the following accepted documents through the verification feature of the NextBlock App :

Our team here will verify your account within 24 hours, considering all data submitted to be accurate.

Who have access to my data?

NextBlock is committed to the PDPA Requirements as well as data privacy. It is in our mandate to protect the data of all data, may it be user data or user-generated content data on our platform.

NextBlock complies to PDPA requirements and will never shares your personal data with any third parties without your consent.

What can people see in my profile

Username / Displayname

The usernames and display names that you have chosen for yourself during the registration period will be shown to other users of the app

District you stay in

Other users are unable to see the address that you have keyed in during the registration process. As a matter of fact, we do not even require your to key in your full address when you registered your account - just your postal code. When other users view your profile, they are thus, unable to see information about yourself such as:

Other users on the app are, however able to see the districts that your postal code reflects.

user-generated content

The posts that you generate on the app can be seen by other users in your profile tab. However, to further improve the privacy considerations of our users - NextBlock has also introduced a Privacy Mode, which can be activated in your profile. When the Privacy Mode is toggled on, none of your content that you posted will be available to other users on the app.

In essence, your most essential data, such as your phone number, date of birth and block/unit numbers of your house are NOT disclosed to other users on the app and will never be disclosed from our system to any third parties.

Any chances of system being hacked?

SMS login mechanism

If you have realised, NextBlock only utilises a single login mechanism - SMS OTP for both registration and logging into the system. There are no username / password systems within our system architecture and we soley rely on SMS OTPs as the definitive login mechanism for the app.

In a nutshell, we have no username / passwords in our system for users to hack into and retrieve these details to do remote logins to the system. Logins are governed strictly via OTP and OTP can only be received from your end, via your mobile phone.

Engagement of data security company

We have to be honest, we are not data security specialists and that is why we let the professionals do the work for us. NextBlock actually engages a professional data security company in handling the security aspects of our database and system integrity so that every single one of us can sleep at peace.

Our approach is simple - We do not talk like and act like we know everything about database security - we do know the basics and best practices in designing software systems so that the vulnerability remains low but we prefer to leave this aspect to the specialists and professionals.

NextBlock Private Mode

What is PRIVATE mode?

Private Mode is available for selection on your profile page when you tap on the "Edit" Icon.

When Private Mode is selected, other users will not be able to see any of your postings when they tap on your profile. Instead they will get a remark saying " This account is private. The user has decided not to share hi/her posting details on his/her profile"
